Efficacy of Taraxacum officinale in liver damage caused by doxorubicin in rats

Background/Aim: The use of doxorubicin is limited due to its toxic effects on normal cells. A substance containing antioxidant properties, such as taraxacum officinale, would be useful in preventing toxicity. This study aimed evaluate the effect officinale doxorubicin-induced damage rat liver. Methods: Forty Wistar albino rats were allocated into four groups. In group 1 (control group), no treatment was given. 2 (Taraxacum T), 100 mg/kg Taraxacum administered via gavage route for 10 days. 3 (doxorubicin, D), a single intraperitoneal dose 40 4 (doxorubicin + D+T), eighth day, and Blood malondialdehyde (MDA) levels activities catalase (CAT) superoxide dismutase (SOD) measured. Histopathology assessed by examining preparations hepatic tissue with light microscopy immunohistochemistry. Results: MDA significantly higher, SOD CAT lower D than D+T (P=0.04). Tissue higher (P=0.03). Conclusion: Our short-term results indicate that oxidative stress could responsible liver doxorubicin, might reverse these harmful effects.
